Club handed plum tie in first round of League Cup

Dagenham and Redbridge have been drawn to play Charlton Athletic away in the first round of the League Cup.

The tie will be played at The Valley on the week commencing August 10.

The club famously came close to knocking Charlton out of the FA Cup in 2001, taking the then-Premiership side to a replay.

Ayo Obileye, who played on loan for Dagenham last year, could line up for the Addicks who are scheduled to visit Victoria Road during pre-season.

Daggers went out on penalties last year after a titanic 6-6 tussle with Championship Brentford.

Since the east Londoners were promoted to the Football League in 2007, they are yet to make the second round of the competition in eight attempts.
