Pre-season friendly: Thurrock 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 5

Daggers made amends after a poor start to come out comfortable winners at Thurrock.

Manager Wayne Burnett took the opportunity to cast his eyes at triallists Brian Saah and Ben Swallow along with strike duo Lloyd Macklin and Rhys Murphy at Ship Lane, but he was absolutely fuming after the visitors conceded after just two minutes.

A quickly taken free-kick found Lewis Perkins who shot first time low past the outstretched hands of Jordan Seabright.

It did prove to be the wake up call the Daggers needed and Brian Woodall, playing in a midfield role, fired an effort wide across goal.

They kept on persevering and the lively Murphy saw a shot well saved by the Fleet goalkeeper.

But Burnett’s side did eventually find themselves level with 25 minutes on the clock when Murphy was the provider for strike partner Lloyd Macklin who unleashed a fierce effort into the top corner.

Murphy and Macklin were certainly working well together and the former saw another good effort deflected behind for a corner.

However Murphy, the former Arsenal youngster, did get his deserved goal as his deflected shot found its way into the bottom corner as Macklin turned provider.

A slow start to the second half wasn’t helped by the usual flow of substitutions as Daggers made seven changes on the hour mark.

And it wasn’t until the final 20 minutes until that the Daggers saw off Mark Stimson’s side.

Louis Dennis won Daggers a soft penalty after 73 minutes and Medy Elito slotted home the spot kick and Afolabi Obafemi added a fourth seven minutes later.

With time ticking away, Dennis got on the score sheet himself with the fifth to round off a solid work out.

Daggers’ pre-season steps up a notch with the visit of Premier League outfit Crystal Palace on Saturday.
