Essex club without a game on Saturday having already been dumped out of FA Cup

Dagenham & Redbridge can look forward to a Saturday off from action in the Vanarama National League, and boss Peter Taylor is confident the Essex club will be better for it.

With Daggers already out of the FA Cup, the Victoria Road side are not in action again until they host Fylde in the league on November 17.

The gap in the fixture list gives Taylor some much needed time to blend his squad together, having added the likes of Angelo Balanta, Emmanuel Onariase, Nathan Smith and Conor Wilkinson to Daggers’ ranks in recent weeks.

And though disappointed not to be in cup action this weekend, the 65-year-old is grateful to have plenty of time to work with his new charges in training.

“The players won’t be resting, they’ll be working hard and getting used to each other even more so I’m pleased to have a week off,” Taylor told the club website.

“I’m disappointed not to be in the first round of the FA Cup, but I’m quite happy to have a week off.

“I’m sure the work we’ll do until the Fylde game will be some good work.”

Daggers head into their mini-break off the back of a disappointing 1-0 loss at Sutton United in the league last Saturday.

The Essex club had won their last two in the league prior to the trip to Gander Green Lane, but were beaten by a second-half goal from Kieron Cadogan.

Daggers pushed hard for an equaliser in the final 10 minutes, but were unable to find one as they slipped back into the relegation zone.

And Taylor was frustrated the Victoria Road outfit were unable to take what he felt would have been a well-earned point from their trip south of the river.

“We should have got a point at least. The players are disappointed and so am I because the performance deserved at least a draw, but we let a cheap goal in and it cost us.”

“Both teams worked exceptionally hard to cancel each other out. The attitude of the players was fine, so far that reason I was disappointed we came away with nothing.”
