National League outfit beat young Hammers 2-1 on Friday
Dagenham & Redbridge assistant manager Terry Harris was pleased the team had a testing workout in their 2-1 friendly win over a West Ham United XI on Friday.
Daggers earned their first win of pre-season by beating the young Hammers thanks to second-half goals from new signings Lamar Reynolds and Ollie Harfield.
Despite playing in sweltering conditions, Peter Taylor’s men never once looked off the pace against an energetic West Ham XI.
The home team also looked to have a good understanding, despite their being plenty of changes, both on and off the pitch, since Daggers last played at Victoria Road in April.
There were plenty of positive for Daggers to take from the match and Harris, who returned to the Essex club in the summer from National League rivals Boreham Wood, was pleased with what he saw.
“We were delighted with the workout. The West Ham XI were sharp and liked to play, which made us work,” he said.
“We’ve had a hard pre-season so far, the same as everybody else, and I thought it was an excellent workout for us.”
“We’ve got a lot of new bodies in and a few trialists with us as well, so these games give us an opportunity to look at those players.
“I’m not overly concerned about results at this moment in time, I’m more concerned about shape and the actual fitness of the guys, which was there on Friday.
“West Ham XI were sharp, so we had to sit in our holes and once we did win the ball, we attacked them with pace. We have got pace in this side, certainly up front.”
After a goalless first half against West Ham on Friday, Reynolds netted the opening goal of the game soon after the restart, showing good pace to beat his man and break into the box before scoring.
Harfield, meanwhile, looked a threat with his delivery from set-pieces, but his goal was a well-taken effort from the edge of the area.
Both strikes would have pleased the Daggers fans in attendance, with two of the club’s most recent signings on target.
