Andrews was chairman when Essex club memorably won promotion to League One in 2010

Former Dagenham & Redbridge chairman Dave Andrews has passed away at the age of 79 following a short illness.

The Vanarama National League outfit confirmed the news on Saturday morning that Andrews, who was club president, had sadly passed away on November 2.

A statement on Twitter from the Essex club read: “It is with great sadness that we have to report that club president and former chairman Dave Andrews passed away during the evening of November 2 following a short illness, aged 79.

“Our thoughts this morning are with his family, wife Pat and children Paul, Kay and Geoff.”

Andrews was chairman of Daggers when they memorably secured promotion to League One by beating Rotherham United 3-2 in the League Two play-off final in 2010.

In a highly successful tenure as chairman of the Essex club, Andrews was also heavily involved when John Still guided the Victoria Road outfit to the Conference title in 2007.

The thoughts of everyone at Archant London & Essex are with the Andrews family at this difficult time.
