Youngster leaves after only one season at Victoria Road

Defender Josh Staunton has left Dagenham & Redbridge after turning down a new deal to remain with the club.

The 21-year-old departs after only one season at Victoria Road, having made 34 appearances in the National League.

Staunton displayed his versatility last season, with his first appearances of the bench coming in midfield, before also going on to play in his natural position at centre-back and at right-back.

With his contract due to expire this summer, Daggers entered negotiations with the former Charlton Athletic youngster, but they did not come to a positive conclusion.

Instead, Staunton will now move and there is sure to be plenty of interest in the promising youngster.

Staunton’s departure means Daggers centre-back options are now skipper Scott Doe, Bondz N’Gala, Luke Pennell and Craig Robson.

It seems likely then that boss John Still may soon be in the market for another centre-back to add cover to his defence.
