Star forward has joined League One outfit Oldham Athletic
Dagenham & Redbridge have sold forward Rhys Murphy to League One club Oldham Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
The 24-year-old has scored once this season in 11 appearances, but only returning from a long term groin injury in November.
He was forced off in Daggers 3-1 victory against Cheltenham Town at the weekend with an injury that could keep him out of action for a couple of weeks.
However it was not serious enough to scupper the move and the club revealed after receiving a bid on February 2 Murphy was allowed to speak with Oldham and subject to league clearance has agreed to sign for the Lactics.
The forward came close to leaving Daggers last January when Peterborough moved for the player, but he turned down the switch.
Barnsley also bid for him in the summer, but again no transfer was forthcoming. But this time Murphy has departed Victoria Road and ended his 18-month stay with Daggers.
He scored 13 goals in his debut campaign before requiring groin surgery in March 2014 that ruled him out of the rest of the 2013/14 season and didn’t see him return until November last year.
A statement from the club website read: “The club would like to wish Rhys every success in the future.”
Earlier in the day Alex Jakubiak’s loan from Watford was extended until the end of the season earlier, whilst Wayne Burnett also brought in Huddlesfield Town forward Daniel Carr to the club to boost his options in attack – with Murphy’s potential departure on the horizon.
With Murphy’s move now complete the onus will be on Jamie Cureton, Alex Jakubiak and Daniel Carr to score the goals to keep Daggers up.
