MP for East Ham Stephen Timms presented the winner’s trophy to Developing Minds FC (DMFC) after they won the Prohibition Cup at Langdon School, The government representative was on hand throughout the competition where DMFC came out on top of the 16 teams that took part in the contest that went ahead despite intermittent showers.
There was little to separate the bulk of the teams in the opening rounds, despite contestants often utilising markedly contrasting tactics during the contest where the group games, semi-finals and final were all decided on the same day.
DMFC eased into the final after winning all of their matches in the earlier rounds.
In the final, they faced Legends who had reached the last two after beating Alam FC 5-4 on penalties in the semi-final.
But in the final DMFC were rocked when Legends opened the scoring and then defended stoutly as they sought to preserve their early advantage.
Yet DMFC were up to the task and quickly levelled the score and then kept their foot on the gas to reclaim the lead, ultimately adding another five goals to run out easy winners.
