Essex Senior League: Wadham Lodge 2 Barking 4

Barking moved closer to the Essex Senior League title and promotion after an end-to-end encounter with Wadham Lodge last night.

The match got off to an electric start, with Joe Pearman scoring inside 30 seconds.

Barking piled on more pressure in the opening 20 minutes and could have extended their lead further but for the woodwork, as the crossbar rescued the home side on four occasions.

Lodge captain Elliot Scott managed an equaliser, before Barking regained the lead just before half time through Paul Oshin.

And the second half also got off to a quick start as Jason Willis was called into action in the opening seconds to deny Lodge a second equaliser, before the ball was pumped long for John Bricknell to make it 3-1 with a low drive in off the post.

Lodge pulled another goal back before Blues leading scorer James Peagram capped off a strong Barking performance with a clinical finish from the edge of the box, looping the ball over his marker before lobbing Lewis Green for his 43rd goal of the season and 70th career goal for the club.

Joint boss Glen Golby said: “We came with a plan to play Joe Pearman in the hole just behind the front two and make the third man runs and it paid off.

“But I felt we could have had 11 or 12 goals in the first half and was disappointed we let them back into the game at 1-0 with a sloppy goal.

“I’m pleased to just take the three points again, though, and we go again on Saturday.”

Victory took Blues eight points clear of second placed Clapton, with a game in hand, and they welcome fifth-placed Southend Manor to Mayesbrook Park this weekend.
