Essex Senior League: Barking’s title party could take off at Stansted

PUBLISHED: 16:47 30 March 2017

Blues know victory at Airportmen will secure crown

Barking head to Stansted this weekend knowing victory will secure the Essex Senior League title.

The Mayesbrook Park club know they just need three more points from their final five games to clinch the title.

Barking will want to wrap things up at the first attempt, but joint-player/manager Glen Golby knows it will be hard against a highly-competitive Airportmen side.

“It’s a game that we know will be tough, but our intentions will be to do all we can to get the three points,” he said.

“There will be no complacency from us and, until we have mathematically won the title, we have to turn up in the right frame of mind.

“I’m sure the boys will be as focused as the coaches and I have no concerns over their mentality at this stage of the season.”

Should Barking fail in their quest to wrap up the title this weekend, the pressure will build ahead of their next clash at struggling Burnham Ramblers the following Saturday.

Golby is aware that sometimes the toughest thing to do is to get over the line, but knows all the Blues have to do is keep playing like they have been all season.

“If it doesn’t happen this weekend, then the pressure is still on us the following weekend to go out there and do it, but I’m confident we’ll get over the line sooner rather than later,” he added.

“We have been the most consistent team in the division this season and if we can continue that this weekend, we will win the title.

“Even if we don’t win this weekend, it’s not the end of the world and we are still in control of our own fate.”
