Blues now just two points from winning league after beating Eton Manor
Player/joint-manager Glen Golby was full of praise for Barking match-winner Joe Pearman after a 2-0 success at home to Eton Manor in the Essex Senior League.
Pearman hit both goals in the triumph which took Barking to within two points of the title.
The in-form Blues player now has four goals in his last three games, and his manager is pleased with Pearman’s contribution.
“Joe set himself a target of 20 for the season and with his recent form, he is getting close to that,” said Golby.
“At times, he can be unplayable. At the start of the season, he was a little inconsistent, but he has become a really important player for us the last couple of months.
“His delivery has always been superb and it’s great that now he is adding goals to his game too.”
It was not all plain sailing for Barking at the weekend, though, as they were made to work for their win.
After a goalless first half, Pearman opened the scoring for the Blues in the 48th minute before adding his second 15 minutes from time.
And Golby was quick to give credit to the valiant effort from Eton Manor after the success for the Mayesbrook Park club.
“Eton Manor can be good one week and poor the next, but they have the quality to perform well and did that on Saturday,” he added.
“They battled hard, but the changes we made in bringing on James Peagram and Matheus Santos gave us more pace and we started to cause them more problems.
“Credit to Eton Manor, though, they gave us a good game and a good challenge.”
