Essex Senior League: FC Romania 2 Barking 5

Barking returned to the top of the Essex Senior League with a 5-2 win away to FC Romania.

The Blues had been knocked off their perch in midweek by Clapton, who had beaten struggling Haringey & Waltham.

Petrit Elbi got the Mayesbrook Park club off to a flyer away from home, netting in just the sixth minute.

Joe Pearman was next in the scoresheet for Barking, scoring 13 minutes later to double their lead.

In the 22nd minute, Ben Higgs was next to pounce as the Blues looked to have the game sewn up.

And the ever-reliable James Peagram rounded off a resounding first half of scoring for the visitors when netting in the 28th minute as Barking led by four at the break.

Romania did net twice themselves after the interval, but never looked in danger of mounting a serious comeback.

Pearman struck his second 11 minutes from time to complete the win which, with Clapton drawing, sent Barking back to the summit.

Barking: Hatton, Ling (Wackers-Kyriacou 60), Tarbard, Oshin (Golby 89), Taylor, Willis, Pearman, O’Brien, Peagram, Elbi, Higgs (Watters 72)

Subs: Delgado, Green
