Harrow League Cup final: AFC Wembley under-16s 2 Hanwell under-16s 2 AET (Wembley win 3-1 on penalties)
AFC Wembley under-16s have been crowned Harrow League Cup champions after a dramatic penalty shoot-out win in the final against Hanwell.
The initial 90 minutes were almost as dramatic as the finale itself, with Wembley needing a last-minute equaliser to take the game into extra time with the score 2-2.
With no goals throughout extra time, the final then progressed onto the dreaded penalty shoot-out.
Wembley were able to hold their nerve during the spot-kicks, with Javell Simpson nailing the winning kick as his team won 3-1 on penalties.
It was a tremendous success for Wembley, whose squad contained three Brent district players and were managed by veteran Brent coach Ian Brathwaite.
The victory proved particularly poignant as it came on the third anniversary of the death of one of the club’s founders, Trevor Hutton.
Wembley will hope they can now complete a double this season as they face Wealdstone in the League Challenge Trophy semi-finals this Sunday.
