Hammers Snodgrass pleased to net his first goal for the club

West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass says it was absolutely brilliant to notch his first goal for the great club.

The 31-year-old Scotsman struggled last term and ended up going out on loan to Championship side Aston Villa but returned this pre-season determined to show what he can do.

He did exactly that in the Hammers huge 8-0 victory against League Two side Macclesfield Town with two goals and a further two assists at the London Stadium last night.

But the former Norwich City man insists it was more about the result in the cup tie and showing the young talent at the club.

“It’s absolutely brilliant, I’ve been waiting a long time for that feeling, scored a goal in pre-season and even that was a good feeling so to score for this great football club means a lot to me.

“But it was about the result and trying to get into the next round, and to show the West Ham fans a bit of the young talent coming through as well, I thought they were unbelievable.

“They played, some of the lads started, and you see the young lads coming on as well Powelly (Joe Powell) and Conor (Conor Coventry).

“They did really well so I’m delighted to see that.

“The score line was just that ruthlessness we need and that’s what the manager has spoke about, we need to be clinical in front of goal and finish our chances, and we did in handfuls.”

Snodgrass feels it was important for the claret and blue to put in a good performance at home and do what was asked of them by being more clincial in front of goal.

“We take each game as it comes, it was a good performance against Everton and then a solid one against Chelsea, they had some chances and we had some chances as well.

“Then this game tonight, no disrespect to Macclesfield as they’re bottom of League Two, so it was a case of the manager saying listen, don’t disrespect your opponents, they’ve got some attacking threats with the big man up top.

“They are what they are and we have to be aware of that, Adrian made a good save early on and that was that really, we took our chances when they came and we were very ruthless.”
