Under-18 boys lift title again

Barking Abbey’s under-18 boys defended their London Schools’ title with a 3-1 win over borough rivals Robert Clack.

Abbey fell behind after 20 minutes to a strong near-post header from a well-directed inswinging free kick but they kept their composure and Emmanuel Oluwole found the net, only to ruled offside.

They drew level, though, when an outstanding move started by Raheel Gohil, saw abbey string 20 passes together before a deep cross from Don Mwape was headed in at the far post by Kaleem Brown.

And Abbey took the lead before half time when good link-up play inside the box saw a blocked shot fall to Brown, to net from close range.

Ryan Mallett’s free kick hit a post from 25 yards, but Abbey had the edge in possession in the second half and, after Joe Bowles produced a vital save, they sealed victory when Emmanuel Igbineweka stabbed home from a corner.

Abbey: Emmanuel Igbineweka, Evaristo Kitoko, Stefan McKenzie-Burns, Fahad Nazor, Emmanuel Oluwole, Don Mwape, Ryann Mallett, Sloan Sifflet, Joe Bowles, Raheel Gohil, Dion Macfoy-Johnston, Tobi James-Otokiti, Khalil Felix, Montel McKenzie, Israel Olujimi, Kaleem Brown.
