A 15-minute hat-trick from Tom Jeffes helped Barking hit Forest for six at Mayesbrook Park.

Blues went into the match unbeaten in their last eight matches, having held leaders Haringey Borough to a goalless draw in midweek.

And the home side dominated from the start, but had to wait until the 29th minute before Jeffes turned home his first goal from close range to break the deadlock.

Ben Turner made it 2-0 from the penalty spot, after Joe Staunton was fouled in the box, and Jeffes volleyed a superb third with three minutes left in the first half.

Jeffes then completed his treble in bizarre fashion when a Forest defender attempted to clear and saw the ball rebound off the Barking striker and into the net, taking his tally for the campaign to 11.

Forest hit back on 72 minutes when Hassan Traore took advantage of some sloppy defending to slot past Jason Willis.

But Steve Willis restored Barking’s four-goal lead seven minutes later, volleying home from the edge of the box, and Turner completed the six-hit five minutes from time.

Determined work by substitute Ryan Creed created the chance for Turner, who fired into the top corner to claim his 33rd career goal for the club.

Victory allowed Barking to close to within three points of top spot, with Haringey not in action, but the leaders have two games in hand.

Blues return to action next weekend with a trip to Stansted.
