West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini says his team need the fans with them after failing to win in their two opening Premier League matches against Liverpool and Bournemouth.

The 65-year-old Chilean addressed his comments after the Bournemouth in regards to supporters leaving early when their side were trailing 1-2 in the ten minutes before eventually losing by that deficit.

“It’s not a criticism of the fans,” Pellegrini said.

“It’s more that I think the team really needs the fans.

“If we are losing 5-1 or 4-1 in the last few minutes, you can leave early, but we were losing 2-1 and we all need the fans – the team, the owners, the manager, the fans – to help us get the result we want.

“Just to clarify, I feel the fans are very important to us.”

While his new side were outplayed at Anfield, there were some bright spells against Bournemouth before the concession of two goals midway through the second half.

“I’m always disappointed when we don’t win,” the former Manchester City boss said.

“Maybe in the first games we played against a big team, Liverpool away.

“I don’t think the result we had was what we deserved.

“The second game we improved a lot, our team play in the first 45 minutes was the way I wanted to do it but in the second half, when we conceded we had a lot of fear that we were going to lose the game.”
