Organisers of a brand new range of Mars Just Play ‘Kickabouts’ and a Female 5s League in Barking hope the recent achievements of England at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada will inspire a new generation of players to try the game for the first time, or to return after a spell on the sidelines.
Females aged 16 and above living in Essex and the county’s surrounding London Boroughs can now enjoy brand new informal Mars Just Play ‘Female-Only’ Football Sessions every Friday at the new 3G pitch at Barking Abbey School, with the optional chance to participate in a 5v5 league format once a month if they’d like to add a competitive element.
The kickabouts will start on July 17 and run every Friday from 7-8pm, open to players of all abilities. Within these sessions particular dates have been set aside on a monthly basis for a new ‘Ladies Football 5s’ League. This is open to all women, including clubs, and females at the Just Play sessions will be encouraged to enter a team.
The sessions are perfect for those who haven’t played in a while. There’s absolutely no commitment as other ‘Just Players’ attend once a month, while some play every week.
Just Play Kickabouts are great for those who want to play without having to honour a weekly game or a complicated league. Sessions are flexible and sociable and an FA-qualified Just Play Organiser will ensure there is fun on the pitch whatever the level of fitness or skill.
The beauty of Mars Just Play is that individuals can just turn up and play for £2 per session. There’s no pressure as it’s just a fun kickabout with mates. For those who are eager to take their football a step further, the monthly 5v5 events will also be taking place for squads with a maximum of ten players. Each Friday meeting runs from 7-9pm and dates are booked for August 21, September 25, October 23 and November 20.
League registration costs £30 per team for the first event, then £20 thereafter. Teams can join in at any time - the more you play, the more points your team gets! All points will be carried over from one event to the next. Every event a squad attends accrues points depending on the final standings at the conclusion. There will be trophies and medals for the winners. It is hoped that the league will grow to give more females the opportunity to join in the fun.
