TEAM captain Danny Fox was the star of the show as gymnasts from Robert Clack were crowned British champions at the British Schools Gymnastics Association National Finals.

Fox ended the day ranked first in every category and was delighted with how things panned out.

"We each put in 110 per cent in training and made sure our floor and vaults were up to a national standard," he said.

"It was a tough competition however, we managed to stay ahead of the opposition."

Last minute stand-in Joshua Aderoyeje took the silver medal position individually on floor and Ross Torr took bronze medal on vault.

The boys were joined by Arif Hossain, Bradley Johnson and Warren Holmes. Head of PE at Robert Clack, Pete Goyette, said: "This amazing achievement comes about as a result of the immense amount of preparation by these gymnasts and their coach Catherine Bates. A thoroughly well-deserved win."

Pupils from Grafton Primary School also took part. For most of the Grafton boys it was their first major competition at this level, so it was a big event for them.

Coached by Charlotte Smitheram, the boys produced controlled performances to end the day ranked fifth nationally.

Smitheram, who has only been coaching for a year, was delighted with the result and commented: "The whole competition was such an amazing experience, for the coaches and the most importantly the gymnasts," she said.

"The gymnasts from Grafton made an outstanding effort coming fifth overall, considering the high level of the competition.

"The young boys performed to their absolute best, as their coach I was delighted with the result."

Pupils in the Grafton team who competed in the finals were Joshua Burnell, Sam Aitken, Joe Walsh, Beko Elsamni and Shermar Marshelleck.

Earlier in the month, gymnasts from Robert Clack and Grafton Infant and Junior Schools competed in the London regional acro and tumbling finals with Fox picking up further glory, capturing three gold medals.

He partnered both Alex Wood to glory in the under-19 mixed pairs and Shaun Fairburn in the under-19 boys pairs, while won the under-19 boys tumbling.

Ross Torr and Kelly Wood were victorious in the under-13 mixed pairs. Torr, along with Bradley Johnson, won the under-13s boys pairs.

Beko Elsmani and Chloe White won silvers in the under-11 mixed pairs, while Millie Muir, Jasmine Richards, Lucy Tarbard, Chloe White, Amy Dalton and Sade Walters all came second in the under-11 group.

Joshua Burnell won silver in the under-11 tumbling, as did Bradley Johnson in the under-13 event and Lee Howard at under-19 level.

While Arif Hossain captured bronze in the under-19 tumbling, as did Torr in the under-13 event to complete a fine performance.
