Dagenham lightweight Eddie Hussein aims to continue his unbeaten march at Wembley on Saturday on one of London’s biggest boxing nights of the year, writes Len Whaley.

The main event sees Frank Buglioni, once a Repton amateur favourite around local halls, bid to upset the odds in his world title clash against undefeated Russian Fedor Chudinov, the WBA super middleweight king.

Frank Warren’s bill includes a British title duel beween Ryan Walsh and Samir Mouneimne, and a Commonwealth clash between Lewis Pettitt and Bobby Jenkinson.

On top of that is a WBO European match between Bradley Skeete and Mark Thompson and another bout involving Jamie Cox for an impressive Wembley line-up.

“It’s great to box on such a great bill headed by Frank world title bid, but obviously I have to concentrate on my fight,” said Hussein who has won five and drawn one of his six pro outings.

The former Dagenham BC amateur is trained by father Mo, a former Commonwealth champion, and will be tested by Leicester’s Lewis Jones.

The Midlander has lost three of his seven pro fights, but the defeats have been against rivals who have won all their previous bouts.

Hussein, a 26-year-old who has been a pro for over four years, is keen to step up into the title picture, but he knows he has to beat Jones this weekend.

Also on Warren’s Wembley bill is the welterweight clash between Ahmet Patterson and Danny Butler, plus fights involving Romaeo Romeo and Jamie Kavanagh.

*The show goes on for the Upton clan after all three brothers were points winners at Bethnal Green’s York Hall on Saturday night and appear on the next Goodwin bill on October 17.

The Upton’s army of fans all around York Hall erupted as Anthony Upton completed the treble success with a 10th straight win, outpointing Tottenham’s Mark McKray over six rounds.

Dangerous puncher McKray tried to repeat his upset KO win over Ryan Taylor in his last York Hall appearance, but found Upton’s skills too much.

Brother Paul, now unbeaten in nine outings, started the victory parade as he proved too good for Latvian Zaurs Sadihovs also winning on points.

Paul, the oldest of the brothers at 27, controlled the clash at long range against a rival who tried to take him out of his stride, but failed in the show opener.

Sonny Upton, like Paul a light-middleweight, overcame a tough rival in Gloucester journeyman Lewis van Poetsch, landing the sharper shots as he built a commanding lead.

The Uptons are named on the promising October 17 bill which features Joe Mullender, Matty Askin, Leon McKenzie and Freddie Turner’s meeting with Kris Agyei-Dua for the Southern Area title.

*Marvin Lombi reached the National Novices finals in Dagenham colours in 2013, but is now aiming to go one better in this year’s competition.

The tournament starts the new season and Lombi, a national runner-up in Class A (under 20 bouts) two years ago, enters the Class B (10-20 bouts) at 56kg.

Also entering for Dagenham in the championships are Adrian Lionel and Denis Dagilis, both at 75kg, and Dan Landy at 60 kg.

In the women’s Class A 54kg division Daggers enter Sharon Christiansen, who recently took a gold medal at the World Police and Fire Games.

After the weigh-in at West Ham BC on Tuesday, the championships start with preliminaries on October 1 and the NE London finals the following day – at venues to be decided.

The chase for glory continues with the London semi-finals on Saturday, October 3 and the finals are staged the following day, both at the TA Centre on Baring Road, Grove Park.
