Youngsters combine to good effect at UEL

Barking’s Toshi Kazoku Judokwai club began their 2017 schedule in style with medals at the London Area development competition at the University of East London.

The Barking Abbey-based outfit sent six of its young players to the event, with Ruby Delaney and Smilte Smitriai both winning gold medals.

Amy Branch and George Branch added silvers, while Rene Fulgence and Daniil Mykytyn added bronze to the haul.

Delaney and Smitriai also entered a team competition and picked up bronze to the delight of coach Turan Kiani, who said: “It’s a great start to the year for these young players. I’m proud of all the team.”
