Joe Mullender won his first fight in ten months, halting Manchester’s Ben Capps in seven rounds at the Brentwood Centre on Saturday.

Mullender, based at trainer Jamie Williams’ RM7 Gym on the Dagenham-Havering border, produced powerful body blows to halt a tough rival who had won four of his last five contests.

*It is a busy weekend on the local fight front with an MTK show at York Hall on Friday and a Matchroom bill at the Copper Box Arena on Saturday.

Ex-Dagenham amateur Martin J. Ward is on the Copper Box bill that also includes John Ryder, Charlie Duffield, Ted Cheeseman, Asinia Byfield, Craig Richards and Jake Ball.

Collier Row super welterweight Sammy McNess faces undefeated Michael McKinson at York Hall on Friday.

The 12-fight bill also features Johnny Coyle, Sunny Edwards, Dan Azeez and Mitchell Frearson.

It looks set to be another exicitng week for boxing fans in east London.
