Gale Street club won 29-12 at Maldon in London Three Essex last Saturday

Andrew Moreland says he will not be reading much into Barking’s previous match with East London ahead of Friday’s meeting between the sides in the Essex Intermediate Cup.

The Gale Street club have been drawn away from home for Friday’s quarter-final against their London Three Essex rivals.

The teams have already met in the league this term, with Barking finishing on the wrong end of a 29-12 score at home in September.

But director of rugby Moreland feels that game offers few clues as to how Friday’s cup tie will go.

“It’s nice to be playing under the lights again and doing it away from home for once,” said Moreland.

“It’s a cup game, so you never know what might happen or what to expect.

“Yes, we’ve played each other once already this season, but there have been changes to both squads since that match.”

Without the pressure of league points being at stake, Barking may elect to make some changes to their starting XV for the trip to East London on Friday.

But Moreland was coy about whether he would make any alterations to a team that had won their last two in the league.

“The cup game does give us a chance to rest players if they have niggles and give chances to those who have been close to the starting XV,” he added.

“The only issue is that having won our last two games, everyone is desperate to play and we want to keep momentum up.

“With some of the academy players pushing on, it’s adding to the competition for places in the first team and that’s a nice decision to have.”
