Cottons Park club beat Millwall 51-10 last Saturday

Pat Hallahan is looking forward to seeing Campion pit their wits against a former National League One club when they visit Barking in London Three Essex on Saturday.

The Cottons Park club will be chasing a fourth straight league win when they travel to Barking, who were in the third tier of English rugby as recently as the 2011/12 season.

Since then, things have not gone well for the Gale Street club who now find themselves in the eighth tier after back-to-back relegations.

Barking have not enjoyed the best of starts to the season with just two wins from their first six league games.

But head coach Hallahan knows his in-form Campion team will still have to be at their best to triumph on Saturday.

“We’re not reading much into Barking’s form and not reading much into any team’s form,” he said.

“It’s sad to see what’s happened to Barking. When they were at their peak, there were several Campion boys in their team so there are close ties between the clubs.

“It’s still a big game for both teams and I’m sure Barking will be up for the game as much as we will be, so it could be fiery at times.

“Their form and league position doesn’t offer much for us to look into because in this league, it’s often about who is available on the day.

“It should be a real good test for us and a yard stick to see if we are heading in the right direction as a club.”

Campion warmed up for the Barking clash with a 51-10 win at home to bottom club Millwall last Saturday.

It was a third win in a row for the Cottons Park club and one that lifted them up to fourth in the table.

Dan Maling scored the last try in his final game for Campion before moving to Australia.

And Hallahan believes that made the success all the more sweeter for the Cottons Park club to savour.

The Campion head coach added: “It was a great way for Dan to sign off by getting the last try and it capped a good all-round performance from the team.

“We’re not going to get ahead of ourselves as there are still some tough games to come, but we’re happy to have on three on the bounce.”
