A LAST-MINUTE try from Joseph Fleota saw Barking earn a crucial victory at fellow relegation strugglers Luton on Saturday.

The Goresbrook side had been trailing 14-9 with just seconds remaining, before Sean Flannery set Harry Bryan on a run.

His pass found Adam Bishop, who beat a number of defenders before drawing the covering defender and feeding Leota, who completed his man of the match display with a try under the posts.

That put the scores at 14-14 and Bryan still needed to kick the conversion to take the victory, but that he did.

With one play remaining, Dan Collier then won the home side a line-out before Harry Eaton knocked the ball out, for what could be one of the most important wins of the season.

The first half had seen both sides battle it out for possession in the middle of the field.

Conditions were hazardous for the two teams with the rain and wind not conducive to running rugby.

Barking did create three good breaks in the first half but failed to capitalise on them and a quickly-taken tap penalty saw Luton open the scoring with a try.

The game was played in a very tight, slow manner as neither side wanted to make any unforced mistakes, but Bryan's three penalties kept his side in touch at 11-9 down going into the second half.

After Luton extended their lead by another three points, they had one last chance with 20 minutes to go from a penalty, but after that Mark Robinson's side took control.

Despite opting to run two very kickable penalty opportunities, Barking's fortune eventually turned when Leota went over, and with both North Walsham and Havant losing, that could prove to be an invaluable score.

Robinson's men have an excellent chance to move out of the relegation zone when they host North Walsham on Saturday.
