BARKING under-15s started their season with a hard-fought draw against Harpenden.

It was their opponents who started stronger, and after going 5-0 ahead, it looked like it might be a difficult afternoon for Barking.

A tap-penalty try made it 10-0, but that score finally woke the Barking boys up and they started to compete.

Harpenden did manage another score before the break to make it 15-0, but the second half was a completely different story.

This time it was Barking who were in the ascendancy, and they spun the ball wide for new boy Matt Cottrell to score in the corner.

From the kick-off, Barking secured possession again and Cottrell got his second of the match to bring his side back to within five points.

He wasn't to be denied either as the backs and forwards combined well, allowing Cottrell to touch down once more and complete his hat-trick.

Barking: Delaney, N Herring, Clarke, Church, Brunger, Osbourne, Duke, Yellop, Baker, Kennedy, Allington, B Herring, Wenn, Cottrell, Davis, Thompson, Ringwood, Cook, Cooper, Olaleye.
