Stillwater report: The Square lake at the Warren fishery is responding to the mild weather. Anglers are having an excellent time with all species - but the performance of the week must go to the pole fishing dynamic duo Stan Howard ad Dave Hemmings.
Between them they landed around 80lbs of fish on Thursday. Dave, fishing with 3lb hooklengths and a size 20 hook, landed three carp between eight and 12lbs as well as losing four other carp. Complementing his catch was a superb net of roach up to 12ozs plus some nice perch.
Stan, fishing a 1lb hooklength and a 20 hook using a single pinkie, caught around 15lbs of roach up to 12ozs plus some nice F1 hybrids. Juniors Mitchell Seaman and Joshua Wright of Linford had a nice bag of quality roach using pole fished maggot and caster on Saturday.
Also successful C.Hicks landed a superb common carp of 24lbs and pike of 20lbs and 21lbs were landed on Thursday and Saturday.
Although the weather is mild the water is still quite cold and the feeder and pole anglers are catching more carp on small baits such as corn and maggot than the more traditional summer baits used by the dedicated carp anglers.
