Basketball team holding sessions across three age groups looking for new talent

Barking and Dagenham Thunder basketball club, the only side in the borough who field teams in all age groups of the national league, are holding try-outs for new members.

The age groups that will be looking to recruit new players are the under-12s, the under-14s and the under16s.

All the try-outs are free and will be held at the Barking Abbey School Leisure Centre on Woodbridge Road.

The session for the under-12s is on June 9 from 6pm to 7.30pm; the under-14s on June 9 from 7.30pm to 9pm; and the under-16s on June 13 from 12pm to 2pm.

Ravidson Teixeira, the club’s under-16s’ head coach, hopes the Thunder can unearth the stars of tomorrow at the events.

“The try-out will focus on integrating some of the best talents in and around Barking and Dagenham to compete at a competitive and high level,” said Teixeira.

Anyone looking to take part is advised to turn up 30 minutes before the tryouts are due to start to register, or alternatively they can sign up online at www.thunderbasketball.co.uk.

Those looking to take part will also need to bring a passport photo and water with them on the day and are expected to be in appropriate clothing to play basketball.
