NOT even the rain could stop Barking and Dagenham BMX club from holding the first round of a competitively-fought summer series.

Newcomer Jamie Porter came second in the under-sevens race to Nicholas Oaten, who is currently in first place in the regional standings.

He also raced in the eight-to-10-year-old event and came a respectable sixth, just behind sister Chloe, with Joshua Wallis in first and brothers Joshua and Emmanuel Webb coming second and third respectively.

The 11-to-14-year-old event saw Tommy Parker take first place, closely followed by Mitchell Barnes and Ryan Lewis.

Danny Clarke also raced up a group to finish in fifth place in the 15-plus event, just behind Gary Glock who came fourth, with Peter Lavender crossing the line in front of Sam Richardson for first place.

Others braved the weather, with Simon Croucher (first) Tony Riley (second) and Matthew Oaten (third) impressing.
