William Bellamy Primary School has become the first school to bag the School Games Platinum Mark Award with their success throughout the 2017/18 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and the school is delighted to have been recognised for our success.
The Dagenham-based school’s sporting achievements this year include gold, silver and bronze medallists at a number of borough competitions for pupils in each school year, including athletics, cross country, panathlon challenge, tag rugby, hockey, cricket and football.
All pupils participated in a range of intra competitions throughout the school year with many of them going on to represent the school in the inter competitions.
The schools’ young sports leader programme proved particularly positive allowing pupils to deliver activities throughout lunch and break-times; increasing the physical activities of our pupils and improving lunchtime behaviour.
This included the Ultimate Personal Challenge, Active Sheds, Sport specific activities and other sessions, such as our Fairy Fitness.
A school statement said: “With an increased total of young people competing in local inter-school competitions this year, we are extremely proud of our pupils for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including those young volunteers, leaders and officials who made our competitions possible.”
Donna Rose, PE and School Sports Specialist, added: “I feel so lucky to work with such amazing pupils.
“Their passion, perseverance and dedication to becoming ‘the best that they can be’ are so inspiring. I love watching the pupils develop as young sports leaders, officials and participants in sports, and how they become excellent communicators and role models for the younger pupils.”
As part of their application, they were asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and were pleased that the hard work of everyone at our school has been rewarded this year.
