IF YOUR childhood memories go back to carnivals and fetes, then a group of actors have just the thing for you.

Harry from the Hill is a specially written Queen's Community Play this week at the Billet Lane theatre in Hornchurch and maps the formation of the housing estate of Harold Hill in neighbouring Havering.

Set round a mythical character called Harry, his comfortable upbringing in west London is upset when he discovers he was adopted and his biological parents live in Harold Hill.

So starts a journey of discovery for the young man about to embark on a university degree course, until that is, he meets his real parents and a family he has never known.

Written for the theatre by Kath Sayer, more than 50 community players have been rehearsing for the past three months, learning lines, dances and songs and will be getting first night nerves tonight as the show launches into five performances finishing on Saturday night, August 2.

Featuring all local actors, the play is multi-tiered with ages ranging from seven to seventy and tells the story of Harry, played by St Edwards student, Jacob Portsmouth,

It is Jacob's first major role in serious theatre, having spent a couple of years in the youth theatre.

Harold Hill celebrates 60 years as a community this year, and the specially commissioned play has delved deep into the history of the residents and groups that have made up life of the past six decades.

A wealth of old photographs have inundated the theatre for back projection during the performance and will give a lot of memories of happy and sad times a jog.

Tickets for the performances between Wednesday July 30 to Saturday August 2 are £10 and available from the box office on 01708 443333.
