BBC television personality Mark Franks is today (Wednesday) valuing antiques at Mecca Bingo in Dagenham Leisure Park in aid of the Carers Trust.
Those attending the bingo can make a small donation and bring any old jewellery or collectibles to learn about the items and what they are worth.
The presenter of Car Booty and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is will be there along with antiques expert Steven Kirby and his son James.
Steven, a gold bullion dealer in London’s antiques hot spot Hatton Garden, Holborn, said: “We will value, research, give people a price and then tell them the best way of selling on their item.”
Steven added the most interesting item he had ever valued was a gold coin dating back to 1579 that had been found with metal detector and was worth £4,500.
All three experts have been interested in antiques since their school days. Mark said: “I’ve always dabbled. I’m a registered dyslexic, but this is something people can turn their hand to and easily learn.
“It’s a very nice way to recycle and preserve history. Come down, bring your stuff and donate to the charity.”
Mark, Steven and James will be on hand from lunchtime until 7.30pm, and again on March 26. Call 020 8593 9862 for more details.
