The author Lesley Pearse will be showcasing her new book Survivor on February 14 at Barking Town Hall.

Lesley has sold more than seven million novels worldwide and is best known for featuring strong female characters.

Her latest offering is no different - Survivor tells the story of Mariette Carrera, a feisty young woman who moves far away from her New Zealand home into the midst of Blitz-ravaged London.

She soon discovers that all her wits are needed to survive the war.

Fans of Lesley will be able to buy personally signed copies of the book on the day.

She told the Post: “I’m really looking forward to coming to Barking on February 14 for a Valentine coffee morning and meeting all my readers there.

“It would be lovely to meet a tall, dark stranger, too, maybe carrying a red rose, but I might be letting my imagination get the better of me.”

Mayor of Barking and Dagenham, Cllr Hardial Singh Rai, said: “Our library service is doing a remarkable job in attracting internationally renowned authors to the borough.

“Lesley’s visit comes shortly after last year’s highly successful reading festival. I wish Lesley every success with her new novel.”

The event is hosted by the council’s library service and is free to attend. It will include light refreshments and can be booked in person at any Barking and Dagenham library or by phoning 020 8724 8722.
