Win pair of tickets to Barking dance show which takes place onstage - and off

Audience members will be separated into groups and led around usually closed off areas in the Barking venue for Beyond Boundaries, a mixture of contemporary dance, visual art, projection and film.

The show is based around Courage, a piece that dancer Natalie Su Robinson created about her changing body – and mindset – while she was pregnant with her first son, who is now five-and-a-half months old.

She performed it in The Broadway’s foyer in March last year and then decided to involve other artists for a collaborative piece, initially arranged for August until the fire meant it had to be put back until Saturday next week.

But Natalie says the timing is fortitious as many people need to find courage in the new year – and it gave her a chance to make it bigger and better.

“A lot of people had similar experiences and their work felt really fitting and it became fragments of our different lives at that time,” the 30-year-old, who is director of Natalie Su Company, explained.

“We decided then that we would perform where best expressed what we were feeling. So I went in the old dressing room, which is kind of a horrible place, but there are lots of mirrors in it, which I saw as a reflection of me.”

The audience at the show – which starts at 6pm and also features works by Harriet Parker-Beldeau and MCDC – will even end up on stage for the finale.

“It will be a fun experiment because they won’t know where to put themselves,” Natalie said.

“I wanted it to be led and for the audience to experience it and be submerged in it.

“I always want to not exactly provoke people with my work but I hope they can relate to it, perhaps see it as a reflection.”
