March 29 is fast approaching and whilst it may be a new year we still have the same old Tories in charge.

The prime minister has not budged on her deal and every day this charade trundles on is another day in which our economy is suffering, jobs are threatened and our country is being humiliated.

Next Tuesday MPs will vote on a deal that the PM and her team have been trying to sell to us for the last four weeks; a deal that has failed to meet every test Labour set. I made my position clear in December, that I will not be backing the deal in its current form. I called for the Tories to stand aside and let Labour deliver the Brexit that people in my constituency voted for - a withdrawal agreement that works for working people, the economy and our environment. This week I joined over 200 cross party MPs who signed a letter urging Theresa May to rule out a no-deal Brexit because of the serious impact it would have on manufacturing.

Trading on World Trade Organisation (WTO) terms would instantly make our manufacturers less competitive and make it very difficult for the industry to justify producing goods in the UK for export. In areas like Dagenham and Rainham this would have a knock on effect with residents feeling the pinch more than ever.

Whichever way you voted, no one voted to get poorer; no-one voted for a vague Brexit that leaves the country in limbo.

The government entered 2019 in the same fashion they left 2018, in complete disarray and unable to offer a sustainable plan for Britain’s future.
